If you use meat, such as beef or poultry, good way to recognize food mold, which causes allergies, is color. Grey, green or dark reddish-brown are signs that food is past its age and beginning to get mold. If meat has slimy feeling or slight film to it, mold is in meat.

Fresh vegetables prone to food mold are usually either darker color than normal or begin to show bruising. Another way to recognize food mold is if vegetable is beginning to split open. This means gases from mold are erupting and causing skin to break.
